 Dealing with Broken Focus

Nehemiah 6:1-19

6 Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

Dealing with Broken Focus

Introduction:
One of the major problems we have in life is broken focus. We start many things but because of broken focus we can’t get anything completed. Many people have projects started at their homes and three years later they are still started. We all have distractions but it takes tenacity to finish what we start because there are always so many competing distractions.

One thing that clearly emerges from our study in the Book of Nehemiah is that life is a battle from beginning to end.

Here in Nehemiah 6, as in many other places in Scripture, we learn that the devil has two main ways of working>

A. Fear

B. Flattery

Whatever method the evil one employs, whether it be fear or flattery, his aim is to:

C. Distract and

D. Destroy us.

Breakdown of Nehemiah 6:

I. The Intrigue (1-4)

II. The Intrigue (1-4)

III. The Innuendo (5-9)

IV. The Intimidation (10-19)

Conclusion: So how do you Excel with good focus.

1. Practice saying, “yes” to God’s priorities.

2. Practice saying, “no” to the devil’s distractions.
